Richard Cory

In the poem “Richard Cory,” by Edwin Arlington Robinson, the main character looks like hes got it all, but in the end, he ends up committing suicide. I think the poem is a good example of life because, it is very true, especially with the people you know very well, what’s going on on the outside isn’t what’s always going on in the inside. I like this poem a lot. I would definitely recommend it to people.

Book Review of The Comfort of Lies

One of the ten commandments talks about never cheating or having an affair while married to someone else. Randy Susan Meyers book, The Comfort of Lies, is a story of just that. It may not be based off of a true story, but I’m positive someone out in this world is going through the exact same thing.

Nathan is a very attractive thirty-seven year old. He has it all, two kids,a beautiful home, and a loving wife. Nathan also has a loving affair with twenty-four year old Tia. Tia is well aware of Nathan’s long term marriage with Juliette. When Tia got pregnant with her child Honor, also known as Savannah, she put her up for adoption. Her adoptive parents, Mr. and Mrs.Fitzgerald, named her Savannah. When Juliette opens a letter addressed to Nathan from Tia, she sees that it contains photos of Honor. With the pictures is a note from Tia that says,

“Dear Nathan,

This is our daughter. Her adoptive parents send photos each year after her birthday (March 6). As you can see she resembles you.

They named her Savannah (I know, it’s a terrible name. In my mind she’s Honor-the name i gave her at birth) , but they’re good people. Caroline and Peter Fitzgerald. She is a doctor; he has a software company. They live in Dover. (I know you’ll wonder. I do know you.)  They will always love and care for her.

I expect our daughter will call me someday. At her birth, I arranged things to allow this future contact to happen easily. I expect that if she calls, she will ask about you. I plan to help her get in touch if that’s her wish.

                                                                     Tia”

What will Juliette do next? will she stalk or contact Tia? Will she scream at Nathan? Is her trust gone now even though she forgave him?

My favorite part of this book is when Juliette reads the letter from Tia to Nathan. Juliette knows that Nathan would have never told her about his child with Tia. She would have to scream it out of him just like she had to do to make sure this was the first time that Nathan cheated on her with another woman. This is also my favorite part because Juliette decides not to show Nathan the letter, and to me, even though revenge isn’t the answer to any relationship problem, its a good way to get to the truth before he has time to find out and come up with some big lie to cover it.

I would recommend this book to anyone 13 and up. On a scale from one to ten, The Comfort of Lies would be an eleven. This book has such a realistic touch to it that I feel like anyone could find some way to relate to this book and enjoy the pleasure of reading it.
